Welcome to Artificial Intelligence for everyone. I am Mrs. Eswari Jayaraman. The duration of this course is four weeks and it is a non-technical course. This week, we are going to see what is artificial intelligence, and its tools and what it can do and what it cannot do; Second week, we are going to see machine learning and data science; third week, we are going to have neural network and deep learning; fourth week, the ethics to be followed when you are having an artificial intelligence project and at the end of this course, you will be learning all the buzzwords and you will be able to do a project in artificial intelligence. You may be thinking this is a very difficult course because you are not able to understand anything now. But at the end of this course, you will be very familiar with all the buzzwords and you will be familiar with some of the projects and you will be able to do a simple project with your mobile phone or with your computer.
Now we are going to see what artificial intelligence is. Before going into it, let us watch a very small video clipping.Have you seen the video? The Chitti is a machine, which has been created by the doctor. He created a machine which is able to do whatever a man can do. It is able to walk, talk, think and learn. So it is a machine created by man, artificially, created by man to think, read, write and everything. This is called artificial intelligence because this intelligence has been created by man. So it is an artificial intelligence. Whatever is imitatinga man or a machine which is imitating a man is called artificial intelligence. Chitti is called super intelligence because it is able to do more than what a man can do.That is why it is called a super intelligent machine.
No. It is not possible. Why? I think you might have known about Charles Babbage who was living in1800s. And he created a machine which is called difference engine or analytical engine. He was unable to complete the machine he was not having the science and technology which can complete the machine. But after 150 years, a computer was created as he envisioned.This robot also, this super intelligent machine, for creating this super intelligent machine also,science and technology has to be improved. We will be able to do it after five years or 50 years or 500 years.We are unable to use super artificial intelligence now. What are we using now? What type of artificial intelligence are we using now? That is called artificial narrow intelligence. It is called narrow intelligence because it is meant for a small function brain can do or imitating a very small function done by our brain. For example, we are using a smart watch, which is able to find the temperature of the body, pulse and pressure, heartbeat. If something goes wrong in this, immediately this smart watch will tell us to consult a doctor. That is called artificial narrow intelligence.
Another example I will give you. The Youtube - You are watching something. It will give you the recommendations based on what you are watching. That is artificial intelligence. You have Google translator. If you are giving in English, it will give you in Tamil. It will translate and give you. This is language processing. This is also artificial narrow intelligence.
Artificial narrow intelligence has been used extensively in the field of computer science. For example- your smart phone – it is called a smart phone because artificial narrow intelligence has been used extensively in that. Already I gave you examples of Google translations and Youtube recommendations. This can be used in other fields extensively in near future. Say for example, a driverless car, a machine which is checking the quality of items in an industry and a robot teacher, which is teaching Science or Mathematics, or a robot which is serving in a hotel. These are examples of artificial narrow intelligence in other fields. That is why we have to learn artificial intelligence
